Welcome. I’m a visual artist by profession, primarily focused on landscape subjects. Many of my photographs are associated with seasons and holidays, often with an emphasis on foggy conditions, moonlit evenings or other settings that drift toward the mysterious or nostalgic. About Kit Gentry
I've been a landscape painter and photographer for more than 20 years. That pursuit has carried me to some of the most scenic parts of the world - from the surreal glacial lakes of the far north to the tropical islands and atolls of the South Pacific. I've walked through snow in Canada and over the crust of flowing lava in Hawaii - in the same year, no less - and it's been entirely the generosity and support of my collectors that has made all of that possible.
Those stirring adventures were preceded by the acquisition of a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan School of Art - the only degree that I had a ghost of a chance of earning due to my incessant habit of painting and drawing all the time, but at least I managed to graduate with honors in that field. I grew up in Michigan, but lived on the island of Maui for 16 years, and currently live in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee - these fogbound mountains are currently my most productive source of landscape imagery, and I'm always on the lookout for subjects with a strong sense of haunted, early American nostalgia and seasonal appeal.
